Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
Culture and language
At Westdale Public School we are committed to embedding Aboriginal language and culture throughout our school life to foster respect, understanding, and reconciliation. Our curriculum includes Aboriginal perspectives across all learning areas, and we celebrate Aboriginal culture through language programs, storytelling, art, and community partnerships. By embracing the rich heritage and knowledge of Aboriginal peoples, we strive to create an inclusive environment where all students develop a deeper connection to Country, culture, and community.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Excursions and incursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and identify how their learning connects to the world.
STEM enrichment and robotics
A comprehensive range of STEM and IT equipment is available for classes to borrow to support learning. All equipment comes with lesson plans, set up tips, links to T4L videos and technical support to compliment teaching and learning and ensure best practice
Gymnastics
Westdale Public School partners with McGinnity Gymnastics each year to provide age-appropriate gymnastics lessons to all students in years K, 2, 4 and 6. McGinnity’s take into account factors such as age and experience to ensure the safety of students. Gymnastics is an important part of the PDHPE curriculum, and we fully appreciate the expertise and experience of the McGinnity family. Classroom teachers supervise the lessons.
Gym
At Westdale Public School, we provide an alternate playground space dedicated to age-appropriate gym activities, allowing students to engage in purposeful physical activity. This space supports students to release energy, develop strength, and build resilience through safe, hands-on heavy work activities during supervised playtime or group sessions.
School sport, athletics and inter-school competitions
At Westdale Public School, we actively participate in a wide range of school sports, including PSSA Knockout teams, swimming and athletics carnivals, and interschool competitions, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a healthy, active lifestyle for all students.
CPR
Each year our Stage 3 students participate in CPR training. A valuable life-saving skill.
Environmental Club
At Westdale Public School, we embed environmental education into our daily activities, promoting sustainability through active recycling programs and regular maintenance of our school gardens, nurturing students’ respect and care for the environment.
